Taurine
Taurine is an amino acid-like compound and an element of bile acids which maintains the stability of your cell membranes,
(compounds that help absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins). Taurine helps to prevent overactive brain cells, (has a calming effect) and regulates heart beats.
Adults have high concentrations of Taurine in white blood cells, skeletal muscles, the heart and central nervous system.
It plays a role in your digestion, and is used to process potassium, calcium and sodium in the body, as well as maintain the integrity of cell membranes.
The body, with the exception of young infants, is able to create Taurine from the amino acid cysteine.
Taurine can also be found in fish and meat. No severe side effects have been noted or associated with Taurine.
