Antioxidants
Your body needs antioxidants to neutralize the
damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals are the by-product of common
bodily processes (eating, breathing, exercising) and can also result from
environmental factors like pollution, pesticides, cigarette smoking, and alcohol
consumption. This is exacerbated if you don’t get enough sleep, regular
exercise, lack a nutritious diet and live a stressful life. All these factors
can cause the deterioration of your cell structure, making you age faster or
become ill Antioxidants bond to these free radicals, returning them to a stable
state. When you increase the antioxidants available to perform this neutralizing
work, you support your body in limiting the free radical damage which
also accumulates with age. Good antioxidants support your body in protecting you
from these negative effects
Until
now, scientists believed drinking red wine had health benefits and a range of
resveratrol products have hit the market in recent years extolling the virtues
of the anti-oxidants found in wine.
Now they believe the resveratrol in wine has little to do with the actual wine
itself. This latest research indicates that highly-concentrated resveratrol
without the alcohol, sugars and calories of wine, is found within the actual
grape seeds themselves. These antioxidants are found in a large family of
natural antioxidant compounds called
Polyphenols exist in plant floods and their contribution to the antioxidant
capacity of the human diet is much larger than that of vitamins. And a subclass
of this antioxidant-rich family found in fruits and vegetables is flavonoids.
Dietary supplements won’t replace a healthy, well balanced diet of wholesome,
unprocessed food. But grape seed extract and other specific fruit antioxidants
are an excellent complement to a healthy diet in providing you with free radical
protection and healthy aging.
